The Sky Bar is a “ must-to-go” for millions of tourist who visit Bangkok every year. But if you don’t know yet, Bangkok is huge and offers plenty of rooftop bar options to relax watching the city lights.
If you also want to have an experience that runs away from temples and street food, it’s best to carry your outfit smart casual in your backpack and save some money to invest. That’s because the best views of Bangkok’s rooftop bars don’t come for free. And you still have to include in the final bill 7% of taxes (VAT) and 10% of service. But wait: I separated an excellent option without fancy clothes, friendly night prices and cool people.
I just want to say going to a famous rooftop bar can be a bit frustrating, because probably you will see another tourists paying expensive prices to take a selfie holding the drink with background view. No judgments, just an advice. Relax and enjoy the moment, because the view is worth every penny.
Before talking about the list of rooftops (all photos from them), it’s best to understand what dress code smart casual is. And no, you will not be allowed to go in if you are in the wrong outfit. They are very strict! Boys, if you only have shorts in your backpack, local shopping around the Sky Bar’s Lébua State Tower can help you find pants for the occasion at a payable price on occasion.
And three more things to know: 1 dolar is about 32 baht (check rates at http://www.superrich.co.th); the beer I wrote is Singha, a local brand; and in Thailand the minimum age for alcohol consumption is 20 years.
Since Hangover II was filmed in Sky Bar in the movies, this rooftop has been in the check lists of most travelers. The view is 360º on the 63rd floor on the Chao Phraya River, which gives more charm yet. It’s one of the best places to see the sunset in Bangkok.
While most tourists go to the Sky Bar, the Vertigo and Moon Bar is the favorite of locals and expats. The atmosphere is quieter despite being on the 61st floor of the busiest part of the city. It’s Bangkok’s second highest rooftop. The rooftop covers every floor and looks like those romantic bars from movies. It’s just a pity that on rainy days the Moon Bar closes, since the space is completely open.
Despite being a rooftop with no river view, the panoramic view of the 55th floor doesn’t disappoint as you can see the city lights of distant temples. The location is also perfect, right in the middle of Bangkok’s shopping area, in Central World, the biggest shopping mall in town.
With a 360º view of the rooftop, part open, part covered by a glass dome, this rooftop bar in Bangkok has the advantage of being open even on rainy days. The view from the 32nd is beautiful especially at sunset with jazz playing. For what it offers, the prices are very reasonable.
This rooftop bar in Bangkok is relatively unknown, but not the least amazing! It has a overlooking of the Chao Praya River and the Asiatique on the 26th floor. The music playing is more modern, it has free shuttle boat from Saphan Taksin and the drinks prices orth the view.
The Octave Louge is in the most expensive area of he city, Thong Lo, home to Thai high society and young expat from big and international companies. The 360º iew of this three-level rooftop is much more than just a bar. It even have and VIP area! Octave is the highest place in Bangkok with DJs playing every night at the top of 48th floor for a real party. On this rooftop the dress code is formal dressy, what means is more formal than in the Sky Bar.
But as not all of us have extra cash for expensive beers, and sometimes even casual smart outfit in our backpacks, but we still want rooftop bar in Bangkok, here’s an pocket friendly option:
The Jazz Bar is one of those places that makes you want to stay for hours. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, music is good, furniture is retro, decor is casual, there are cool people and interesting people to meet, local and foreign, and the best part: prices fit in your pocket and have no dress code rules. Also is close to BTS Skytrain Victory Monument and there’s no extra taxes to pay. There’s just one negative point: it’s on 6thfloor and there’s no lift.
